Lansdowne Theater Reopens
I was fortunate to recently see Brian Culbertson live at the newly renovated Lansdowne Theatre, what an amazing evening. The Lansdowne Theatre originally opened as a movie house showing silent films in 1927 and quickly became a Lansdowne landmark. Unfortunately, an electrical fire in 1987 forced the theatre to close its doors. The citizens of Lansdowne were so committed to bringing this iconic movie house back to life that in 2006 the Historic Lansdowne Theater Corporation was formed to spearhead its restoration. The project took nearly 20 years, and it was absolutely worth it. I was thoroughly impressed by the attention to detail that went into the renovation — from the beautifully painted ceiling to the intricate design of the chairs — maintaining the building’s vintage charm while giving it new life. The evening felt like stepping back in time; even though the theatre is newly restored, you can still feel its nostalgia and history.
One of the great benefits of living in Lansdowne is its proximity to Philadelphia and its rich arts community. Having the Lansdowne Theatre nestled right in our town feels perfect on so many levels. There’s plenty of parking — we parked just a block away, for free I might add! Several restaurants are located directly across the street, offering fantastic menus, with even more dining options coming soon. It’s easy to enjoy dinner before your show, and it literally took me only ten minutes to get home afterward. I’d say it was a perfect evening out with my husband.
I highly recommend experiencing the theatre for yourself!
